We use Fujitsu 4097D's and they have flatbed capability, but are not color
scanners. We've never had a problem with them production-wise.

As for VRS, we're adding it this spring to both scanners. I believe it will
make a difference, but remember it will only decrease your QA time and it
could slightly increase your scanning time depending on whether you get the
matching cards (most people do) or attempt to do the software only method.
Our scanners and scan software require us to make tedious manual adjustments
on many quality issues. For example, if someone uses a green sticky note on
a page we're imaging, not only does it not pick up the writing on the sticky
note, but it turns the area black and the black streak stretches down the
page. With VRS it adjusts all this automatically behind the scenes. If you
attempt the software only installation, it does all the work on your
scanning computer's memory. If you use the card, it does the work on the
card and leaves your computer alone which makes things much faster even with
a new, well-built and loaded computer.

Subject: Looking for mid-volume scanner with flatbed capability

Looked at the archives - but no actual opinions on these machines.

This will be a centralized production scanner for the company. The scanner
be able to scan just about anything out there. We'll be scanning vouchers,
invoices, easements, and contracts for starters.

Anyone have any experience with these specific scanners ~ Panasonic-S7065C,
Canon 7080C, and the Fujitsui 5750C with Kofax's VRS installed? Reliability
or maintenance issues (shipping to mfg), ease of installation, any pluses or
minuses you can provide is appreciated. No vendors please.

What about VRS - Is VRS overrated? Does it really save on time, reduce size
and improve quality of images?

I have ruled out B & H and Kodak. Sales Rep showed no mid-volume scanner
for B&H. Kodak's scanners had to attach the flatbed piece.

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks in advance.

Bob
