I'm pleased to announce that the State of Missouri is beginning a
significant part of its 2-year Missouri Electronic Records Education and
Training Initiative (MERETI). On March 24th, the Secretary of State's
Records Services Division will present the first of a series of seven
workshops to state and local government officials in Missouri on issues
related to the long-term accessibility and preservation of electronic
records. The workshops form a key element of the MERETI project, which is
funded in part by a grant from the National Historical Publications and
Records Commission.

Workshops will cover a range of topics, from basic to advanced. A team of
excellent instructors from eVisory in Richmond, VA includes John Breeden,
CRM, Virginia Jones, CRM, and Dr. Charles Dollar. Any Missouri state or
local government manager, records manager, archivist, or information
technology specialist is eligible to attend. Workshop information and
registration forms can be found at the MERETI website:
http://www.sos.mo.gov/records/mereti/

Earlier activities under the MERETI initiative included two targeted
presentations on electronic records issues:
- to the state government's Information Technology Advisory Board (ITAB)
featuring Bob Horton, Minnesota State Archivist,
- and to attorneys from the Missouri State Bar and state and local
government activities by Barclay T. Blair, Director of the Technology
Practice at Kahn Consulting, Inc. and co-author of Information Nation.
Project staff has also developed an extensive glossary of archival, records
management, and information technology terms designed to facilitate
communication and collaboration on electronic records issues among
specialists from all areas. The glossary is available for use at:
