Don't know if Alberta has more recoverable reserves in the ground than Saudi
Arabia, but Canada provides a greater proportion of U. S. petroleum imports
than does Saudi Arabia (source:
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level
_imports/current/import.html). Recently, however, Saudi Arabia passed
Canada in crude oil imports to the U. S.
As for why: because we use so much of the d-mned stuff!

If Alberta has more oil than Saudi Arabia, why are we paying so much for
gasoline and hopping to OPEC's tune?
