Nolene,

I have found over the years that records experience pays big dividends
when doing inventories. My suggestion would be for you to do the
physical inventory using a small digital or tape recorder. I would
suggest a short outline of a script be available to provide structure to
the information. Something as simple as storage unit number (assigned
as you go), contents, date, and comments.

Tape into the folks with not enough to do to enter the information into
a database for you.

This approach has worked great for me over the years.
