I would recommend you take a look at a product from Records Management
Software Inc. at:
http://www.recordsmanager.com/rm.htm

I believe they might have just the solution you are looking for.  The
product is called "SIMPLE Records Manager".  I have not looked at the
product for several years but was impressed with the functionality it
had the last time I looked at it.  Please note that I recommend the
software but would strongly suggest that you not purchase their optional
barcode solution.
