Larry raises some excellent points about 3rd party contracting. You
should always perform some level of due diligence.Here are some more
suggestions. If the destruction will be done at an offsite location
be sure to visit that operation. Send an observer to watch the actual
destruction.. Conduct random audits of the process. Contact former and
current clients of the vendor. If a former client ask why they stopped
using the vendor. Is the vendor a member of a trade association such
as NAID. What other services does the vendor provide? Will they
conduct a survey of your facility, will they conduct an audit to see
what is not being securely destroyed ie checking the trash.
Finally you get what you pay for. Don't always go for the lowest price.
