Hello Bonnie,

A few thoughts come to mind on this hypothetical question:

1. Ensure that you have it in witting that the off-site vendor is accepting
responsibility that they lost, or in the case of destroying the records, that
they did indeed destroyed the records without approval of your company to do
so.

2. If a legal department is handy, I would send a letter to the storage
center outlining the exact damages the company will be seeking from them if and
when the company loses litigation due to the fact that the records where
destroyed or lost.
