I have always found the question of liability and what you are entitiled
to if your storage vendor is unable to locate one of your boxes to be an
fascinating question. Typically contracts will limit their liability to
some fixed value per box.

But think of it in another way. Suppose you park your car at the airport
using valet parking. Further suppose that when you present your ticket to
get your car back they tell you that unfortunately they are unable to
locate it. When you raise a stink they point out to the small print on
the back of your claim ticket that indicates that they are not liable for
any loss or damage to your car. Would that really be end of the story.

I hope not.
