most definitely. what we need to remember is that RIM as a profession
encompasses a lot of things. If folks don't realize that then they
should take a look at what the CRM exams (Parts 1-5) cover.

Asking where RIM fits in an organization doesn't tell the whole story.
that is but one question that needs to be asked. For many
organizations a deliberate decision was made to place RIM in a
particular department, while in other organizations RIM grew
organically without any formal decision being made to create it. Only
after it had been in existence for awhile was RIM formalized by the
organization. What organizations need to realize and understand is
that RIM is comparable to the Finance organization. An organization
has two assets that they must actively manage - money and information.
Organizations have given the Finance department the responsible for
managing the monetary assets, what they haven't done is placed the
responsible for managing information in one department.

A scientifically developed survey is what is needed. not a shotgun
survey. A good one would survey a select sample of the membership.
This increases the validity. If ARMA International won't do such a
survey then, in my mind, this might be something that the Educational
Foundation could do
