For those of you interested. I just returned from taking two of the
five required courses for this training. The instructors for both
courses were very clear in letting us know that the certification of
training is, as one instructor put it, a little c, not the big C. They
went on to state that this training does not grant anyone the authority
to use "initials" after their name. All it does is to show you have
completed a course of training in Federal Records Management. I think a
better way to term this training should be "Certificate of Completion of
Training in Federal Records Management", but they are calling it
"Certification of Training in Federal Records Management". My
understanding is that in order to get the certificate, you must be a
Federal employee, or a contract employee for the Federal government, but
I won't swear to that.

I will also add that the two classes I took were very good. The
instructor's did an excellent job. I've been working in Federal
Government records management for 20 years, and I felt these classes
were worthwhile. I did learn!

This course is required for obtaining NARA's Certification of Federal
Records Management Training.

I had a couple of questions off-line on this certification and thought I
would pass on to the list for clarification. First, the certification
David alludes to has not related to the Certificed Records Manager
offered by the ICRM. In addition, it is not a recoginize credential by
any certifying body, that I am aware of anyway.

As to whether the NARA Certicication is worth obtaining, I leave that up
to someone else who is more knowledgeable in the subject.
