Howard, we have been doing this for about a year now through a service
bureau (Technical Imaging Systems in Portland, OR). I would say the loss
in quality with TIFF images is marginal. We are paying about
$0.035/image for a typical conversion to microfilm, with additional
charges for diazo duplication and polysulfide treatment when needed.
