Late breaking news...from Oz:

Hi Rick

Yes you are quite right – someone in Oz is developing a partner standard to
AS ISO 15489, which will enable organisations to assess their level of
compliance with 15489. It could be used for self assessment, or independent 3rd
party “audit”. There is no formal certification process attached to this, as
there is for ISO 9000, as 15489 has not been written or intended as a
certification instrument.

The draft is currently still quite large, and is the valuable input from a
number of clever people associated with IT21 (our Standards Aust RM
committee). It is in an editorial phase, it will then undergo internal (Standards)
review processes and be released for industry consultation in Australia this year.

There is also some discussion at ISO level (RM committee) about how far
compliance should be incorporated into the review of ISO 15489 which is underway.
No firm decisions have been reached on that yet.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Judith
