Dear Tod: Good question: The two standards operate at different ends of the
spectrum: 15489 is a regime level standard without (as yet) any kind of
certification tool, though IRMT has a Records Management Capacity Assessment
System (RMCAS) tool that can be downloaded from its site (irmt.org). I haven't
evaluated it yet, but IRMT says that although it does not claim it as a
compliance tool, they do think it will make users ‘more compliant’ with ISO 15489,
as it is based on ISO (along with the Canadian Information Management
Capacity Check model and MoReq).
5015 on the other hand is a records management application (software)
standard, with a testing authority and certification/re-certification program. The
two standards do not compete or overlap one another. Rather, in my opinion,
they make nice music together. I recommend both of them as enterprise
standards.

Subject: ISO 15489 and DoD 5012.2
Good day to all.
Has anyone out there done a cross-walk between ISO 15489 and DoD 5015.2 STD?
I am working on some requirements and have been asked to approach both of
these at the same time, and am looking to find out if others have had any
good experiences with such a review.
Thanks for your input.
Tod
