For folks looking for alternate hotel information, please go to the
Yahoo link previously posted. However, one word of caution: if the
hotel rate looks too good to be true (i.e. around $100 a night) and the
hotel is not a name brand, you might be in for a very negative
surprise. You can find some specials in that price range at different
times, so keep an eye out for those sorts of offers from the bigger
chains.

http://www.tripadvisor.com has reviews on many hotels. You do need to
take some of these with a grain of salt. Some hotels will tend to
"seed" these review sites with positive reviews and some negative
reviews are well over the top. So read a lot of the reviews and look
for common threads.

In the case of the Cass Hotel, it is probably not a hotel that I would
recommend except for the most intrepid traveler. You're going to get
what you pay for. That may be fine for some folks, but do take a look
at some of the reviews.

One of the challenges in Chicago is that many older hotels have been
renovated to "boutique" status (and generally pretty good) and others
have been purchased by some of the lower end brands. Since I can't stay
at every hotel in Chicago, I'll generally suggest that you do a fair
amount of research before selecting some of the lower end places. Some
of these will often double as single room occupancy places, and those
are not where you want to be.
