Thanks for the good ideas Chuck, I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend (smile)>

Subject: "Old Media"

I give a similar presentation and have found the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and the nearest Junk Shop to be of great value.

Also, find the "Pack Rat(s)" in your org. I've got a guy down the hall here who will not toss his 5.25's, even though we do not have a drive that can read such media!

Another thing I like to do is break a "cd" to demonstrate its "permanence."
Break it before the presentation, as it tends to shatter and send shards flying!

Good Luck!

Subject: 5.25" floppy diskette prop wanted...

Good Morning ListServe,

I present the records management portion of DHS' new employee orientation program, and am thinking about adding a little light-hearted humor to it by displaying various media we've used over the years. This is primarily for the "youngsters" in the group who have no knowledge of anything other than CDs and DVDs.

I already have an 8" floppy disk as a visual along with a 3½" disk, but am searching for a 5¼" floppy to complete the evolutionary show. Of course I also have a CD and DVD, as well as an RFID tag. Does anyone have a 5¼" floppy disk that I can have? It doesn't matter whether there's data on it or whether it's even still readable, as I just want it for show and tell. If you're in the greater DC area then I'll gladly come and pick it up, or you can snail mail it to me-but not at the address below. If you want to send it by snail mail (which I am fine with), please send me an e-mail and I'll give you a different mailing address.

Thanks, and have a great day!

Earl
