The Central New York ARMA Chapter will host a panel presentation on “FACTA and Identity Theft” on Wednesday, October 5, 2005. And, you're invited!

FACTA is the acronym for the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. The purpose of the law is to ensure that all individuals are treated fairly when applying for credit. Passed in 2003, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act includes the requirement that the three major credit reporting bureaus - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion - provide every American with a free copy of their credit report once a year.

Our first panelist will address FACTA. Glenn Fitzgerald, Divisional Manager with CBCInnovis in Western New York, was a bureau manager on the Trans Union, Experian and Equifax systems for 5 years.

Identity theft and identity fraud are terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another person's personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, typically for economic gain.

Tim Kirk-RAIC (Resident Agent In Charge) with the U.S. Secret Service in Syracuse, NY, will fill us in on identity theft and how to protect ourselves from it.

Date and location: October 5, 2005, 11:30 a.m., at Barbagallo’s Restaurant, 6344 East Molloy Road, East Syracuse, NY.
Cost: $25 ARMA members, $30 non-ARMA members.
Program/Registration: Program and registration information are now available online at http://archives.syr.edu/cnyarma/index.htm. For reservations, contact Jackie Lewis at (315) 866-2920, ext. 232 or via e-mail at [log in to unmask]
