Well, first things is once she has the order set up, she might want to
invest in some acid free folders or evelops that archives or larger
research institutions use. Speak with someone who's actually dealing with
purchase of preservation materials. And you can always get mylar sleeves
(looks like avery sleeves but better) to store any fragile documents you
don't want handled by hand. Also, I know that the large boxes that NARA
uses is designed to absorb moisture and apparently quite a bit of it. And
as was suggested store them in a humidity controlled environment.

They might want to speak with local archives and see if some arrangement
could be reached that's mutually beneficial to the owner and the
institution. You can always allow institutions to house your material if
it's relevant to the institutions collection. But that might be a course
of action to think about if you're all out of options.

up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall
walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)

Hi everyone!

This post is for a friend:

She has several boxes of old family records (things such as
birth/death/wedding certificates) dating all the way back to the late
17th century that her mother has recently turned over to her. She wants
to know what the best way is to permanently store all these paper
documents. We advised her to keep them in a humidity controlled
environment if possible, but we wondered if anyone here might have some
good advice for her. Are there any kind of protective folders or tools
of the trade that might help her out?

Any tips you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
