As I recall there was quite a heated exchange about people not asking for
help, etc, etc when a snowstorm hit North Dakota and soem rather negative
comments amde about folks in the Gulf Staes receiving aid for their
losses... seems the truth of the matter is SOMEONE in ND asked for help,a nd
true to form, 6 or so weeks later, the US Govt is there to help out.
The intent of this post is not to reopen the wounds caused by that
exchange, only to point out that simply meeting the requirement for "near
record snowfall" DID garner a response from the Federal Govt, and that no
one is expecting these folks to move out of an area that has suffered.

NORTH DAKOTA: President approves disaster declaration

*-*Snowstorm causes more than $2 million in damage

Associated Press

BISMARCK-* *President Bush has approved a disaster declaration for parts of
North Dakota hit by an early October snowstorm that caused more than $2
million in damage, Gov. John Hoeven announced Monday.

The declaration includes the

Three Affiliated Tribes on the Fort

Berthold Reservation, and the counties of Benson, Billings, Bottineau,
Bowman, Burke, Dunn, Golden Valley, McHenry, McKenzie, McLean, Mercer,
Oliver, Pierce, Renville,

Rolette, Sheridan, Stark, Towner and Ward, Hoeven said.

Morton, Mountrail and Williams counties also are eligible for aid because
they have met federal criteria for "near record snowfall," the governor's
office said.

The disaster declaration makes the areas eligible for federal grants to
cover 75 percent of public property damage.

Hoeven said the disaster aid also will help rural electric cooperatives
facing more than $1 million in uninsured losses from the storm.
