thought of.

Mary Haider asked about destroying wet records, something with which
I've had some experience.

Shredding is probably the best method but there is both bad and good
news here.  The bad news is that (1) wet and/or moldy paper is not
suitable for recycling so reputable vendors will dispose of it in a
landfill and (2) wet paper weighs more than dry paper and most vendors
charge by weight.

The good news is that wet paper is actually faster and easier on the
equipment than dry paper.

And, back to the bad news, handling the boxes is the biggest problem
because paper swells, gets heavier, and the boxes loose their strength
and burst or handles tear out.  

The bottom line is that most vendors will be glad to do the job, but be
prepared to pay more than you would normally.
