And on a similar note there are government agencies that encourage the
collection of information in electronic forms, such as the DCAA (Defense
Contracts Audit Agency) where they create/store their audits electronically.

Their "Information for Contractors" publication includes a copy of FAR
Subpart 4.7, Contractor Records Retention, as an Appendix. It is a useful
tool for people like Steve and myself working in places where the DCAA (they
also perform audits on civilian agency contracts) is involved. You can
visit their site at http://www.dcaa.mil.

Subject: Re: Destruction of paper once scanned

I replied to David off-line but be careful about destroying the hardcopy
until you've done the research. Depending on the industry there could be
some regulations that preclude immediate destruction. An example is I'm
in the defense contracting industry and we need to keep all hardcopy of
scanned images for 1 year after imaging per the Federal Aquisition Rules
(FAR 4.7). Great idea to keep only one copy and have that be the
electronic one BUT just be sure you've done your homework.
