We had a discussion a few weeks ago where we talked about concerns
about storing information on blade Servers due to the danger they
present and that the RM should gain control of the media. We discussed
how hot the new blade servers were and how they are a fire hazard. A
nice little discussion occurred and the editors of Processor Magazine
must have taken note as this weeks issue has three articles:

"Cooling Demands On The Rise."
"Data Center Too Hot to Handle."

and;

"Monitor the Environment"

[Peter these are available from Processor.com. for RAIN should there be
interest. ]

So for those who paid attention to the discussion, here is your
invitation to begin a discussion as you can reference that in the
records management forum, concerns were raised about these same issues.
( some weeks back) Then suggest that it might be appropriate that IT
and RM work together to establish a safe-harbor program for your
organization by supporting each other.

If they are concerned that management might react to your concerns
about these new and unsafe server issues, they will want you as an
ally. IT may imagine that in a future meeting, that now you are aware
of the problem and fear that records management will point out
concerns about loss of data due to these new super hot blade servers.
This may recruit a supporter of your involvement in the future
protection of IT records, that are currently not in your scope of
participation.

At the very least they will use your support to request more air
conditioning, environmental monitors and storage of the media away from
the blade servers. (oh, say in the Records Management area?)

So here is an early present for you this holiday season. The gift that
keeps on giving. The RECMGMT listserv...... Ho Ho Ho
