This is good that there is discussion about this issue in this forum. I
feel it is in keeping with ARMA and SLA imperatives about the
professional ethics of supporting and fighting for the IM industry to
remind IM professionals that they owe it to the profession (and
themselves) to NOT take low-paying jobs and to voice objection at
employers who continue to try to get away with undercompensating. This
is one way to (try to) bring about change in perception of the value of
records managers.

<All this for $32,500.00 per year max? Good Luck.>

Ah yes.....the periodic discussion on poor pay offerings for records
managers. I agree our field is not always paid what we are worth, but
it is an uphill battle to get things to change. There are much higher
paying RIM jobs on the market but usually for a head of dept., group or
division manager, or sole source of expertise in an organization. As
discussed before on the list, corporate RIM jobs are usually higher
paying than state and local government (and even some Federal) RIM jobs.
Unfortunately, state and local government rarely sees the records
management job series as high paying -- no political clout and does not
fit the old-fashioned view of hierarchy and power play. Getting a job
series changed in government (and it is always based on the series - not
the individual in a particular position) is often complex and time
consuming. From the perspective of other state and local positions, the
32,500 salary for an analyst over time in Jeff City, MO is about right.
