Hi all, and with apologies for cross-posting once again,

As promised last week here is a schedule for the new AIIM workshops. Please
refer to my message of December 29 or the AIIM website at
http://www.aiim.org/education/erm2.asp for details on each course, including
pricing and location.

AIIM Electronic Records Management Workshop Schedule

Feb 6: ERM Strategy, Chicago, IL
Feb 7: ERM Strategy, Boston, MA
Feb 8-9: ERM Practitioner, Boston, MA
Feb 10: ERM Strategy, Washington, DC
Feb 28-Mar 3: ERM Master Class, Denver, CO
Mar 14-17: ERM Master Class, Philadelphia, PA
Mar 28-31: ERM Master Class, Houston, TX

Please contact me directly if I can provide any additional information on
the individual workshops, the AIIM ERM Certificate Program, or IMERGE's
other training offerings including CDIA+. We are also happy to schedule
private classes for organizations.

Note also that the ERM Practitioner and ERM Specialist programs will also be
available online - and the ERM Practitioner course is live!

Finally, just to keep the signal-to-noise ratio a bit better, let me add a
brief book review. Last week I received the new book, "Managing Electronic
Records", edited by Julie McLeod and Catherine Hare. It's a collection of
essays by a number of leaders in the field of electronic records management,
including John McDonald, Xiaomi An, Richard Marciano and Reagan Moore, David
Stephens, and others. The topics vary from metadata to digital preservation,
from legal issues associated with electronic records to an examination of
research in electronic records management and its importance to the
profession.

I am still working my way through it, but so far I have found it to be
pretty compelling. This is not a "ERM 101" book - it is definitely for the
more senior practitioners. Each essay is fairly short, at 10-20 pages, but
full of information AND LINKS! At $89.95, this is not a cheap book - but the
links alone are worth the price. If you are looking for best practices in
metadata, for example, Kate Cummings' article on metadata includes links to
DIRKS, Australian REcordkeeping Metadata Schema, ISO 15489, ISO 23081, and
Dublin Core. Even better, if you go out to the book's website, all the links
are listed for you!

In short, it's not a cheap book or written for the newcomer to records
management. But for those of you looking for true professional development,
some information to make you think and stretch a bit, I highly recommend
this one.

Cheers,
