Deanna,

As I think you have understood by the various responses so far, the answer is "it depends." First you must decide and specify which size trucks or trailors you will use. Then you must decide if you will palletize the boxes or not, and how many boxes you will put in each pallet if using them.

In terms of which is faster, pallets or no, it will depend on what machines you have on hand (manual pallet jacks or power pallet jacks, fork truck, or only dollies) and the layout of your facility (single floor, multiple floors, dock or not). As Chris said, it is sometimes faster to dolly them straight onto a trailor sans pallets. In some cases, especially if you have a power pallet jack or even a fork truck, palletizing can go faster.

So look at your situation, make the necessary decisions about how you will execute, and then you can calculate for your answer.

Good luck,
Gary

The last time we moved our records center, I believed we used flat-bed
trucks that could carry 20 pallets of 40 boxes each for a total of 800
boxes a load.

In designing our business continuity plan, the question came up....if we
had to move all of the boxes in our records center quickly to another
location, how many trucks would that require? So my question for the
list is this: has anyone ever figured out approximately how many
standard records boxes would fit in a semi/tractor trailer-sized moving
truck?

Thanks in advance for any help...
