Dear Jacqueline,

I would be willing to respond to your survey regarding records management
training provisions. We have recently installed a 3000 seat electronic
document/records management program, in addition to having managed a
traditional, paper-based records management system for many years. We
provide a rather basic level of training to newly hired staff responsible
for filing, and have had to expand our training to end-users of the software
programs as well. We have staff in 29 countries using four languages, which
makes it an interesting project. I cannot claim that we have done an
outstanding job, but at least we're still standing.

My organization is a multi-lateral lending institution established by
treaty, under the auspices of the Organization of American States, which
puts us outside the Bretton Woods/UN organizations such as the World Bank or
the IMF, but we are similar in many ways.

Please feel free to send your survey (preferably as an e-mail attachment or
a fax, to my attention) or let me know if we are outside the scope of your
survey. Best of luck in your research.

Regards,

Tom

Hello,

I am a Masters student in Library and Information Studies at Victoria
University of Wellington, New Zealand. As part of this degree I am
undertaking a research project investigating the current state of end-user
records management training provision: drivers, content and delivery
mechanisms.

The training component of records management programmes, so essential in the
organisation-wide adoption of recordkeeping practices and processes, and the
corresponding acquisition and development of records managers' training
skills, have, to date, attracted little attention, as such this study will
be of value to the profession.

I would like to invite and encourage all records managers and information
professionals who provide records management training to end-users to
participate in this study.

Information will be collected using a survey questionnaire, which will take
approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

Survey questionnaires can be provided either electronically as an email
attachment, or posted in hard copy format. However, in order to ensure
anonymity for participants, I am requesting that completed questionnaires be
returned to me by post.

At the conclusion of the project, a summary of the research findings will be
posted to the listserv.

To request a survey questionnaire and/or more information, please contact me
offline.

Thank you.

Jacqueline Davidson
