As long as you can guarantee the integrity of the process, I don't see any 
difference. Depending on the state of the originals, and the cost of 
adjusting contrast etc and doing QA in the scanning part of the process, 
it may be cheaper to copy the originals, thereby increasing the contrast, 
and then scanning. Or not.
