I appreciate Graham's remarks as well as those that Pat Cunningham, Peter
Kurliecz, Larry Medina and Bill Benedon have made..... Given the discussion
so far, I suspect that most on this listserv who are ARMA members are the
voters. The issue revolves around how to reach those who are not among this
particular "choir".

It has always surprised me to hear that members have been unaware that an
election was underway, and expressed confusion about who the candidates were
and how they might have differed in approach, philosophy, etc. The
information is pretty readily available for those who have an interest, but
is not often accessed.

"We" (the Association membership) may want to consider permitting some
endorsements of candidates....some expression by individuals or groups
(chapters, ISGs, etc.) of support. However, I'm just as certain as Pat
Cunningham is that we don't want members to pay to attend a conference to be
greeted or overwhelmed by the trappings of political campaigning. I think
that we also want to avoid any negative campaigning.

A couple quick questions for those who might wish to comment or ponder:
(1) Do we have a greater level of participation now than we did previously,
when our 150 chapter Boards of Directors made recommendations to an election
management committee?
(2) If the level of participation is approximately the same, are our voters
better informed? equally informed, or perhaps not as well informed in
casting their ballots as in the past?
