Joan,

You can absolutely do it. I have done it here at my company and we have
been very successful. In fact, I recently wrote an article about it,
you can find it in the latest ARMA Metro NYC Newsletter.

The filing system we use here is the same system I learned many years
ago while working at a law firm - Fulbright & Jaworsky. The key step is
to identify what documents are needed and what is critical to your
firm's operations. Once you have done this, and you need to do this with
a very single discipline, you will have identified those that are
urgent, important, etc. You will go along way in creating a true
records database for your firm and huge feather in your cap with the
huge savings you will generate for your firm regarding office space
rental.

Hope this helps a little and good luck!

Vladimir

Subject: [RM] Scanning of Documents to Reduce Space?

I am interested in hearing from anyone in a law firm who has done enough
scanning to significantly reduce the amount of paper kept on site. We
have been asked to figure out how to make this happen and whether it is
cost justifiable.
