Research your organization's operational needs, and the federal and
state regulatory agency requirements, if any.
Operational (proven reference needs)
Fiscal (if any)
Regulatory (if any)
Legal (if any)
Historic (if any)
The retention will be the longest of the above researched and evaluated
retention factors. This will meet all your organization's needs and
commitments, including the key stakeholders.
Best regards, Steve

I am revising our retention schedule. I am currently trying to locate
information regarding the retention of bankruptcy files. The NC Bar
Association web page states a minimum of six years after closing the
files. The book, Records Management in the Legal Environment lists seven
years after the bankruptcy case has closed.
I would appreciate it if anyone might share other guidelines for
retaining bankruptcy cases.
