< ...are interested BIG TIME in RIM. But they call it ECM - Enterprise
Content Management a term created by AIIM in 2003 which has now become
ubiquitous.>
While many vendors use ECM interchangeably with whatever acronym their
products represent, AIIM's definition is as follows:
"the technologies used to Capture, Manage, Store, Preserve, and Deliver
content and documents related to organizational processes"
This is an all-encompassing term. It is not a replacement term for EDMS
or ERMS or even business process flowcharting. These technologies are
"parts" of ECM along with many others. ECM is not a replacement for
Records Management as a whole. It focuses on the technologies and not
necessarily the full RIM body of knowledge. As with most technologies,
a clear understanding of RIM methodology is necessary to most accurately
and efficiently apply ECM technologies to best benefit the organization.
