We have around 800 employees, mostly based in Toronto but with offices
in L.A. and Dublin. Our program is new and has acquired the services 1
Director of RIM, 1 Manager of RIM, 2 Records Technician, 1 Consulting
company to perform audits, inventory, and schedules, and a variety of
"floaters", contract employees, librarians and temp workers to help out
with projects as needed. We are getting things done and it's being done
in a professional manner, but it is slow arduous work. RIM is not for
the Temp. Staffing companies or for clericals to do. It requires
professional direction, management and services. Even with these
resources, we feel we are stretched to the limit given our aggressive
timetables and milestones.
At 3000 employees over several sites, you have your work cut out for

I was wondering about the average size of a records management
department. I work for a pharmaceutical company that has 3,500
employees throughout eight different site locations and an outside sales
force. Over the last year and 1/2, I have assisted our consultant with
the creation of the retention schedules and I have been placed in charge
of our RM program without having any previous experience. I am trying
to convince our Company to hire an experienced Records Manager and was
wondering if anyone could share the size of their department with me.
