John:

Do point me in the direction of your message asking that List members
get back to RIM topics this past Friday, if you would. Somehow, I
missed it.

As to lack of empathy, I don't know why someone would want to post that
about oneself publicly on a Listserv that is archived and searchable.
But obviously you felt it necessary to do that -- so thank you for
sharing that, as they say. As it is, there are many personal
characteristics that people repeatedly refer to here on the List. It's
quite a shtick with some people, and I don't mind it. I happen to be a
twin, with everthing that entails. For good or bad, it's a defining
characterstic of mine. I can't undo it. If there is a quota for
mentioning personal characteristics, I wasn't aware of it. The affront
of mentioning my sis a few times was inadvertent and, actually, quite
innocuous, in the ranking of bad things to do.

If anyone is using Groupwise at home for their personal email, rather
than the office, do let me know. I just can't picture that being the
case. My original message dealt with a hybrid issue, messages saved on
a home PC and at work on a hard drive. I made that clear. Since
records managers are responsible for ensuring that people properly
segregate official records from non-record material, it isn't entirely
"non RIM." If I was wrong to think that some among you records
managers would be willing to help me with such an issue, well, I
already told the List I was sorry to bother you all. I remembered some
good advice here after Katrina about saving personal records, some from
Larry, as I recall. Don't know if all that was marked OT.

To me, the e-mail thread seemed close enough to RIM issues not to
warrant an OT. Judgment call, c'est la vie. (No, let's not start
another thread about France, Belgium, etc.)

At the risk of being flamed:
As a long-time subscriber and occasional poster to this list I would
like to
suggest that we get back to the RIM topics as related to our
professional
experiences and duties, I believe that there is considerable difference
between the management of our personal papers (and the associated
memories)
and what most of us handle and process in our professional lives, and
feel
there are solutions available outside this list to handle the personal
concerns.
Further, while I do not wish to be insensitive to one's personal loss
(I am
sure many of us have lost a loved one "before their time") I have
little
empathy after the 3rd or 4th mention of that loss, no matter how
tragic, let
alone the 30th or 40th.
