Dear Colleagues,
As always there are no simple answers. It depends!
Many years ago in my previous life as the owner/operator of a Microfilm
Bureau for 22 years and in the early 1990's it was the norm to state that
microfilm was a superior media to meet longevity issues as it lasted 100
years.
To my dismay I found a reference in the US Government Printing Office -
USGPO publications that the longevity of Xerox copy paper was 200 years.
Here I was taking Xerox copies [plus much other paper material] and
converting them to microfilm with only half the life expectancy. OK there
are other issues.
For queries related to paper in all its formats I refer you to the USGPO
webpage @ http://www.gpo.gov/acquisition/paperspecs.htm as there is
invaluable and numerous references to paper at this site.
Enjoy!
Regards, Laurie
