Dear Fellow ListServ Members,
I have mostly been a list lurker off and on during the last 10 years
since I occupy a narrow niche of serving the active records phase of big
design/construction projects and always with small technology budgets.
So I am much more clueless about nice electronic records tools than I
would like to be.
A project manager in another geographical location in my company is
asking me to help locate a replacement tool for a Construction
Management Software whose functionality has degraded. It used to allow
tracking of each version of a drawing sheet in a collection of drawings
such that you could call up a certain version. In a migration to the
newest version, this functionality has disappeared.
They anticipate around 5,000 drawings and 15,000 other electronic
documents. A web-based EDM system would serve remote users.
I am somewhat aware of the product they have been using.
I have asked the project manager to email me more of their requirements.
If anyone has suggestions for products to look at that have been used
for active records in construction, I would grateful.
Further, my company has developed work collaboration website based on
e-room by Documentum, and one project in Florida apparently has nightly
synchronizations with a certain off-the-shelf DM package. However I am
told that the users hate the DM package, perhaps because their local
support has not effectively trained them.
If any of this interests you and you have suggestions or advice, I would
love to hear from you, on or off-list.
