Of course, this comment is made by a vendor of solutions which utilise a colour coded label across the top or down the side of the file. So take the endorsement with a liberal pinch of salt. Ask yourself "best for who?" You, or the vendor?

I have no objections to vendors promoting their products - I do, however, object to vendors not fully disclosing their interests.

I am not just picking on you, Michele - lots of vendors try to slip blatant endorsements for their product into the traffic. If they want to get sneaky about it, don't use work email addresses which can be tied back to the vendor. Your product may indeed be the best solution to a problem, but disclose your affiliation so we may make an informed decision.

Hi All
The best file to use for both active and inactive records is the type that can be indexed by use of colour coded labels along the top or down the side and so can be used laterally or vertically. These files are placed into board or plastic containers that fit into the drawers doing away with the need for individual suspension files and greatly improving the space utilisation of the vertical filing cabinets. On shelves they are supported using toast racks giving the same result. As you will have indexed the file using the classification coding while it is active it is simply a matter of placing it into a storage box for inactive storage.
