Graham,
Once upon a time, I was in a meeting with Documentum reps who made sniffy
comments about our retention-series schedule on a functional basis. (The
records series are grouped by function). They could not explain how a
functional retention schedule a) differed and b) would handle records
within the function but with a greater or less retention. For example on
the short end: Paper records used for data entry. For example on the long
end: Almost every function has a series of archival records. It was a
very short meeting, so I can understand that they couldn't give me an
off-the-cuff answer.

Thank you for a clear and concise explanation.
