If you have an internal audit department that conducts functional audits,
you have an excellent approach to your RIM program audit. Prepare a checklist
covering the various areas of compliance (schedule maintenance, transfers,
vital records, and the like). Auditors can include these as part of their audits
and make comments (pro and con) in reports to management with a copy to the
RM function for follow-up as may be required. The key here is that it ties in
management to the program requirements--a key part of RIM success.
