I wouldn't change the status to destroyed until you have a destruction
reeipt in hand.  Up until that point, they're still esentialy in you
"deleted objects volume" in Livelink-speak.

If you were to be audited and the physical object hadn't been actually
destroyed, you would be out of compliance.
