Interesting discussion here.... For those who have attained the designation
of "Certified Records Manager" (CRM), there are continuing education
requirements for on-going membership in the ICRM, and for maintenance of the
designation as a CRM. Is there some need to expand or supplement the CRM?
As for AIIM, others may disagree, but I am a bit concerned that the
certifications that I've seen for AIIM...including my own CDIA+ fail to
require continuing education. While I place significant value on that
CDIA+, it appears more limited than the CRM.
Some designations, like the MIT and LIT designations appear to be...well....
obsolete, as AIIM now focuses on encouraging people to obtain an ECM
practitioner, specialist or master designation. I've not yet heard of any
efforts to move those with MIT or LIT designations to the ECM
designation....so I wonder what the long-term plans may be, and wonder about
the long-term relevance of those designations that are either discontinued
or that don't exhibit the long-term focus for education, retesting, etc.
that we might expect.
