I should note for those of you not as entrenched in the AIIM side of things
that they have introduced a new fall conference, ECMWest, scheduled for Nov
6-8 in San Jose. Google will be there as well as tracks on compliance and
email management. Details on this new offering can be found here:

speaking at this one, nor being paid by AIIM and/or Questex.
Not sure how this colors the discussion. WRT Alan's comment about AIIM,
ARMA, TAWPI, and Xplor, again, for those of you not as familiar, TAWPI's
conference is over the summer. Their focus is pretty strongly on remittance
processing and the technologies that enable that - digital mailroom, forms
handling, electronic payments, etc. Xplor is more concerned with how
documents are created, composed, and printed; their conference is in early
spring (Feb 28-Mar 4, 2007) in Miami and colocated with Graphics of the
Americas. Both TAWPI and Xplor are coming around to the idea that effective
information and records management matters and have adjusted both their
conferences and certifications (TAWPI ICP and Xplor EDP) accordingly.

Two key points Alan makes:
1. ARMA is clearly member led - and a visit to one of their conferences
makes this clear, AIIM (whether for the good or bad) is much more driven by
Vendors. Neither fully understands the others world, and worryingly
technology buyers and decision makers don't make much of a distinction...as
a result we are seeing lots of innapropriate solutions being deployed, and
the failure rate for ECM and Document related systems remains very high.
2. Would love to see more collaboration of training and information in this
space - particularly for SI's and IT staff more familiar with structured
data...Between TAWPI, AIIM, XPLOR and ARMA there is so much potential
synergy...shame more can't be done collaboratively as this space is seeing
such interest and expansion.
