While watching the Redskins beat the Saints yesterday - I know...Washington
is not heading anywhere in post-season play - I saw a commercial from
Microsoft in which one person comes into the office of another person and
asks him (apparently a records manager or someone who is involved in
locating information) to locate two old files - (i.e. the Jones' and Smith
case from 1980-something.)

You see the first guy key something into his PC and he say's "Got it." The
second guy says something like, "I'm going to lunch. You can call me back
after later about the files."

The first guy repeats, "Got it." The second guy says, "Got What?"

"The files." He replies. "Which files?" asks guy number two.

"Both files."

Commercial fades logo and announcer goes into a line about
Microsoft...Solutions for People-Ready Business.

I guess this guy will now be relying on the RIM guy to help him in the
future. Good RM PR...

Joanne, as you begin to provide and expand your services, people will
come to rely on you. Gradually you will build trust and credibility,
and with that you will have a better chance of prevailing on policy
questions. Carrots, then sticks. You can do things on a limited scale
without immediate backing from management, it will just take longer.

You should get a clarification from your manager what they expect of
you. It will definitely help to have an idea of when you can and cannot
expect that person to go to bat for you.

Good luck!
