Let me just nip this in the bud....whereas we all have our own political
ideas and beliefs, the listserv is definitely not the place for it.

Especially in December, when we should all be thankful for the
knowledge, friends, and colleagues we have gotten this year from the
Records Management Listserv.

Oh, and I would be remiss if I did not say a special thank-you to those
who really run this thing - Peter and Marc. Thanks, guys. This
listserv would not be in existence without your help.

Fondly,
Susan

Subject: Re: [RM] RAIN 061210 EDD rules, Bush Library Bid, Local
Archivist

>>One can only wonder at how carelessly a Bush presidential library will
record his administration's trashing of the EPA's archival collection:<<

Let me see if I understand this? EPA is planning to create an online
library of resources to replace a series of libraries that are scattered
across the country. As part of the effort, they will image one copy of
an item and place it in the digital library and destroy the couple of
dozen or so duplicates that were retained as hard copies in the closed
libraries. And this is bad business?

Perhaps there is an answer to this dilemma. Perhaps we should image all
of the materials in half of the libraries. That way we can equally
distribute the complaints. Half of the duplicate information could be
destroyed. That would allow the left to continue to complain about the
destruction of documents. The remaining duplicate items would be imaged
and stored in the new virtual library. That will enable the right to
complain about the inefficiency of government.

Then again, folks will complain no matter what is done.
