Good point, Hugh.
I just bought a WD Passport 120gb USB drive for my laptop... 3"x 5"x 1/2",
5.5 oz. and no independent power supply... it's "cute" and VERY
functional. But it's also prone to theft and there's always a concern
about losing the data (or losing control over the data) stored on it if it
gets stolen.
That's why I've employed a protection system on it... and no, I'm not
talking about encryption, because like most vendors, WD only provides this
software for PCs, NOT Macs.
I'm using "The Sock"... a soft cloth enclosure typically worn on the foot
inside a hard care device known as "The Shoe"... difference is, mine is a
WELL USED SOCK, and I can guarantee you, NO ONE is going to want to steal
that! =)
It may not add the same degree of safety as this device, profiled in
"Personal Finance Advice", but I find it a bit less disgusting...
http://snipurl.com/19giw In extreme cases though, I guess you may need to
go to this level !!!
