If this happened in spite of any pre-existing agreement with your boss (which should also have been understood by the others), then that's both pointy-headed and unfortunate. But I'd argue that this type of situation should be covered by the "Business Hierarchy" mentioned in the article. A "bursty" employee might find a non-standard way to achieve a certain outcome, but without that employee having an understanding of how that outcome relates to other activities in the business, their actions might end up being counterproductive. I'm not against finding new ways to do things, but I think that sometimes the new things are done at the expense of (and sometimes to the detriment of) the bigger picture.
