POSITION:
Digital Collections Coordinator 

STARTING SALARY: 
$3,072-3,193/mo

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:
Missouri State Library-Library Development 

DEFINITION:
The Digital Collections Coordinator will play a key role in managing the Missouri Digital Heritage Initiative (MDHI) database, working with cultural heritage institutions to format and upload their digital collections, training users on the CONTENTdm image management software, helping to develop the MDHI web site and design the search interface and custom queries, and working with State Library and State Archives staff, user groups, and stakeholders to update standards and best practices for digital scanning, metadata creation, and web delivery of Missouri's digital collections. 

JOB FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Management of the incorporation of the CONTENTdm image management system into an integrated system within the Secretary of State's Office;
● Responsible for training users on the CONTENTdm Acquisition Station software;
● Maintain an inventory of collections identified for inclusion in the MDHI database;
● Work with project participants and the Metadata Cataloger to crosswalk or harvest contributed metadata and load it in the CONTENTdm database;
● In coordination with the Digitization Project Manager and the Metadata Cataloger, work with Missouri cultural heritage institutions to ensure standards and best practices in digital imaging;
● With MDHI webmaster, develop and maintain the website, user interface, and indexing for the MDHI database, including pathfinders to assist patrons navigating complex topics, custom queries, FAQs, and online help screens;
● Manage the LSTA Digital Imaging Grant program. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent degree is preferred; undergraduate degree and professional experience in the areas of collection and digitization may be substituted for the master's degree; knowledge of and/or experience in implementing digital imaging projects, including college coursework, internships, or work experience; experience in collection development; experience in web design and HTML coding and in use of image processing software such as Photoshop; experience in using JavaScript and PHP or other scripting languages; experience in implementing applications using HTML, XML, MARC, Dublin Core, EAD, and other encoding schemes; familiarity and/or experience with scanning techniques and standards, including OCR software. 

Preferred: Project management experience and skills; strong communication skills and the ability to work with broad-based client groups; experience with technical support in the areas of scanning, metadata, and image database management; knowledge of and/or experience in using metadata harvesting programs; some work experience with or in a cultural heritage institution.
