Basic Records Operations
Offered in five 90 minute sessions beginning on Tuesday, October 30.
Sessions begin at 10:00 am Eastern.
(Note: We will skip Tuesday, November 20 due to the Thanksgiving
holiday). This course describes what to file, how to file it, and how to
remove files no longer needed for current business. It covers the
variety of activities involved in the maintenance and use, as well as
the disposition, of Federal records. It presents practical how-to's in
handling records of various types. The webinar format will allow for
participants to build their skills during five 90 minute sessions. We
will use directed assignments to allow participants to apply these
skills to their own workplace during the course. Participants will
also have access to a scheduled chat room each week to discuss any
issues that come up between sessions. The target audience for this
course is records liaisons, secretaries, files custodians, and others
who maintain records as part of their jobs. It could be an introduction
to records handling or a refresher course. The course is designed for
those needing the task-oriented records management basics, but who are
not planning to complete the NARA Certificate of Federal Records
Management courses of study or manage a records program. Course
participants in the past have included employees of state and local
governments, as well as the private sector.
