The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) https://www.privacyassociation.org/ offers three certifications: CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional), CIPP-G (Government) and the CIPP-C (Canada). The government certification is a three year process taken after the CIPP exam. The Canadian specialty is a stand alone test.
There are no qualification requirements except that you be a member of the IAPP. Testing is offered at various times and locations (see the web site). This is a description of the program's development:

"The IAPP developed the CIPP program in coordination with the Ponemon Institute, a top privacy research firm as well as corporate privacy leaders from HP, Microsoft, Nationwide Insurance Company, Procter & Gamble, General Electric, Walt Disney Company, eBay, Intuit, Privacy and Information Management Services P.C. and Corporate Privacy Group. The CIPP is made possible through underwriting support from HP and Microsoft."

At least 10 hours of continuing privacy education credit is required annually for a total of 30 credits over three years to maintain the certification.

The test was hard and I was a bit intimidated as 75% of those taking the test with me were attorneys. I think if you are working with privacy issues you might look into this. It has moved my career forward in that I am sought out to give opinions on privacy issues in my company.

The CDIA+ certification is a good one to obtain especially if you plan
to be involved with document imaging systems. If you don't see
yourself being involved in the development of imaging systems then I
wouldn't seek it

You should obtain certifications that allow you to stand out from
other folks. For example if you are involved with heavy project
management you might consider the PMP designation or if you have an
interest in privacy consider the privacy designation (RayC can tell
more about that)
