Over the past few weeks I have been involved with some of you on this list
in a discussion about putting together a “churn protocol” for changing tape
vendors.

This discussion has in recent times evolved to be a discussion about PRISM.
It is no secret that I personally think that PRISM is a cesspit of cronyism
but these are simply my personal views. Although I am always willing to
substantiate these views I agree with the PRISM members who have emailed me
off-list asking me to stop criticising PRISM that articulating these views
is a diversion from more important matters.

I apologise if I have hurt anybody’s feelings and will try to better
understand that some people take longer than others to accept change.

The BareMetal Group will be putting together a churn protocol and would
welcome the involvement of any person or group on this list. If ARMA or any
other group is limited to only working with PRISM then it is possible that
there will be two protocols. This would not necessarily be a bad thing
because once again it gives people choice.

We look forward to presenting a churn protocol and a data protection
certification program within the next few months and hope that they are
well received by both the industry and end user.

Gerard
