We have been scanning for about 5 years now - mostly financial documents
ie. Purchase orders, system invoices, high volume, high retrievals. We
are using KOFAX software and KODAK software to do these applications.
We had a full blown presentation by Microsoft on MOSS and found a lot of
deficiencies that we required. On a small scale I believe it would be
fine.
We manage approx. 800,000 paper files, 17 to 18 million microfilmed
pages, about 1.5 million scanned images plus about 300 Sharepoint sites.
We are trying to purchase a system right now that will allow us to
manage all of this effectively and get people away from corporate drives
(ie W drive). We are almost to the RFP stage so we are moving along.

I do agree with you that a proper ECM system is often needed, however
our product does interface with the most popular ECM systems on the
market as well as having a batch scanning integration for either MOSS
2003 or 2007.
There are allot of companies using MOSS for RM purposes, we specialise
in giving them the flexibility get lots of paper, forms and invoices
into MOSS efficiently. A company such as yours could get the ball
rolling now and then use the same scanning solution if and when you
choose to switch over to a new ECM.

We took a look at SharePoint as a solution however we manage a lot of
paper also and it did not have the capability to do that. We do use
MOSS 2007 for our Contract Management however when we purchase a new ECM
we will be transferring those to it.

Over the past couple of months I have been digging into enterprise wide
records management tools. There are some pretty cool tools out there
that appear to be able to manage all record media types. We want to
select a tool that allows us to manage paper and electronic so our users
in the company will have one tool to go to for all their records needs.
However, there is growing support among our IT folks that SharePoint can
provide what we need from the electronic side. We would need to manage
paper using a different tool.
On the surface SharePoint looks like it could manage Microsoft Office
stuff quite easily. But, what about other electronic records and
documents such as reports generated from SAP and scanned documents
stored in another repository?
My question of you folks is this. Have any of deployed the RM tool in
SharePoint? And, if so, what is your experience with using this tool?
