Full disclosure: We were responsible for damaging one of our customer's
containers that happened to be a size/type that we don't sell. I
found/ordered a dozen of them on-line at a rate of ~ $16.00 each! (And
no, we didn't charge the customer to re-pack).
Another one of our customers recently gave us an order to destroy
approximately 200 of these same boxes and wanted the empties returned.
We dumped the contents into large 5 x 5 x 4 tubs and returned the boxes
after we destroyed the barcode ID. This saved the customer from spending
thousands of dollars on new containers. Certainly worth the time to
cover/cross out previous container content information-
I guess it depends on the container condition and the cost to replace-
it was a laborious job to second handle 10,000 lbs. of paper- we didn't
charge the customer but will have to consider doing so in the future
because it did add several hours to the project-
